Home faucet water
The State of New Mexico will be providing potable water through the existing water system, to provide a water source to home faucets. The water system remains under a precautionary boil water advisory issued on the recommendation of the Compliance and Enforcement due to ongoing water shortages and low system pressure during limited deliveries. No contamination has been detected; the advisory is a preventive measure to reduce risk while pressure remains low, as such conditions can allow untreated water or bacteria to enter the system. The advisory will stay in effect until pressure stabilizes, and water quality is confirmed through routine sampling.
What should I do? What does this mean?
- DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a boil, and let it boil for one minute before drinking, cooking, washing fruits and vegetables, feeding a baby, brushing teeth, preparing drinks, making ice, and providing drinking water for pets. More details about precautions can be found in the following fact sheet: https://www.env.nm.gov/drinkingwater/boil-water-advisories/
- Although no contamination has currently been detected in the Melody Ranch Water Company water system, *Fecal coliforms and coli are bacteria whose presence indicates that the water may be contaminated with human or animal wastes. Microbes In these wastes can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms. They may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, and people with severely compromised immune systems.*
- The symptoms above are not caused only by organisms in drinking If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice. People at increased risk should seek advice from their health care providers about drinking this water.
Residents are asked to continue conserving water in order to make the supply to last between deliveries.
