Code Enforcement

The Code Enforcement Bureau provides for the life safety of occupants in buildings, structures, and facilities, the prevention of fire and the reduction of property losses due to fires. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has adopted the ICC International Fire Code 2021 edition to assure standardization of life safety concerns statewide.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to establish and develop strong relationships with all stakeholders while enforcing the approved fire and life safety standards and laws in a diligent, fair, and consistent manner.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is required to regulate the distribution and sales of fireworks in New Mexico. The office also conducts training to assist local jurisdictions regulate sales and distribution.
