State to provide emergency water to Torrance County community
SANTA FE – Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has issued an executive order to make state funding available to provide water for residents of the Melody Ranch community in Torrance County.
Executive Order 2025-373 directs the New Mexico Department of Finance Administration to allocate $250,000 to the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) for the resources and services necessary to provide water to residents and ensure safe water quality, in coordination with the New Mexico Department of Environment.
Self-serve and bottled drinking water is available for pickup from County Line Feed, 49 Pony Express Drive, Edgewood, NM 87015. Residents can pick water up Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. until further notice.
DHSEM will also be providing potable water through the existing water system, to provide a water source to home faucets. The water system remains under a precautionary boil water advisory issued on the recommendation of the Compliance & Enforcement Division due to ongoing water shortages and low system pressure during limited deliveries. No contamination has been detected; the advisory is a preventive measure to reduce risk while pressure remains low, as such conditions can allow untreated water or bacteria to enter the system. The advisory will stay in effect until pressure stabilizes, and water quality is confirmed through routine sampling.
Residents are asked to continue conserving water in order to make the supply to last between deliveries.
For updated information about water availability and resources, residents can visit DHSEM’s website.
