Governor secures additional federal flooding assistance

The state of New Mexico today announced that the federal government has approved the addition on Doña Ana county and Otero county, including the Mescalero Apache Tribe, to the Major Disaster Declaration for New Mexico following severe flooding and landslides that began June 23.

The additions make financial assistance available to residents of Doña Ana county who have flood-related damages to their property. Residents can apply for assistance online at disasterassistance.gov, or by calling 1-800-621-3362.

The amendment to the Declaration approves reimbursement for permanent work to public infrastructure in Lincoln county through FEMA’s Public Assistance program. It also opens this program up to Doña Ana county and Otero county, including the Mescalero Apache Tribe.

The state continues to work with federal partners to receive post-disaster mitigation grant funding.

A state Disaster Resource Center remains open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the ENMU-Ruidoso Annex, 709 Mecham Dr., Ruidoso, N.M. 88345. State disaster case managers are on site, along with representatives from state agencies who can help with FEMA assistance applications, document replacement, insurance questions and other resources. Residents may also visit the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management’s website for additional information.
