New Mexico to open disaster recovery funding for 2024 fires and floods
Residents can submit intent to apply for recovery grants
SANTA FE – New Mexico is now collecting intent-to-apply forms for $137 million in federal disaster recovery grants to help residents affected by the South Fork Fire, Salt Fire, and 2024 flooding to rebuild their homes and communities.
The state received a $137 million appropriation from Congress through the Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) fund administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These funds are available to support community recovery in areas affected by the South Fork Fire, Salt Fire, and severe flooding in Lincoln County and Chaves County that occurred in 2024.
The state has submitted an Action Plan to HUD for review that includes the following breakdown of funds:
- $100 million for the New Mexico Home Recovery Program.
- $27 million for the Post-Disaster Infrastructure Investment Program.
- $1 million for the Disaster Resilience Planning Program.
- $9 million for action plan development and administrative cost for a six-year period of performance.
“People need help to recover and to build back in a way that is resilient,” said State Director Ali Rye. “We appreciate this appropriation from Congress and will continue to fight for all the resources available in order to support New Mexicans who are trying to rebuild their lives.”
As the state awaits approval of the action plan, the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management is collecting information from residents who intend to apply for the grant.
Those interested in applying can submit an “Intent to Apply” by calling 505-670-4662 or by filling out a form in English or Spanish on our website. Once the New Mexico Home Recovery Program is open, residents who completed an intent to apply will be contacted with application details.
