New Mexico opens applications for disaster recovery grants

Funding helps residents with home repair, rebuilding after 2024 disasters

SANTA FE – New Mexicans can now apply to receive assistance through the $100 million New Mexico Home Recovery Program, a housing recovery grant to help residents in Lincoln and Chaves counties repair or rebuild homes damaged by fires, flooding and severe storms in 2024.

The funding is part of a $137 million appropriation from Congress through the Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

“This is a major step toward helping New Mexicans rebuild their homes and their lives after devastating disasters tore through their communities,” said Maj. Gen. Miguel Aguilar, interim cabinet secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. “We know how important it is to support residents as they work through recovery and we encourage anyone who needs help recovering from the 2024 disasters to apply.”

Homeowners must apply and meet eligibility requirements to receive assistance through the Home Recovery Program.  The program supports recovery work on primary residences with damage from the South Fork Fire, Salt Fire, and severe flooding in Lincoln County and Chaves County that occurred in 2024.

Residents who have already filled out an “Intent to Apply” form will be contacted by a Disaster Case Manager to discuss next steps. Anyone interested in applying can do so online or by picking up a paper application from the following locations:
