Overview

The DHSEM Grants Management Bureau (GMB) oversees the department’s grant programs and works to connect New Mexico’s communities with funding opportunities, generally from the federal disaster and non-disaster grant programs. To that end, GMB provides both administrative and technical support to city, county, and tribal partners, helping these communities understand federal requirements, assemble application materials, and respond to additional requests from federal agencies.

Some of the largest non-disaster grants that GMB processes each year include the Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG), the Hazardous Material Emergency Preparedness Grant (HMEP), Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC), Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA), the Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP), and the Non-Profit Security Grant Program (NSGP), among others.

These grants benefit roughly 258 entities, including:

  • all 33 of New Mexico’s counties
  • 23 tribal entities
  • 49 cities, towns, and villages
  • 153 other groups, including acequias, land grants, faith-based organizations, other non-profit groups, and New Mexico state departments.
